We’re excited to feature possibly the greatest producer of single-vineyard Pinot Noir in the Sonoma Coast. Enter, the wines of Ross Cobb, co-founder and winemaker of Cobb Wines, formerly of Flowers Winery and Williams Selyem. I’ve been a huge fan of his wines for many years and enjoy connecting with Ross whenever he passes through Dallas. His expertise in far West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is on display in this bottling with loads of ripe black cherry and red plum jumping from the glass. Underscored by notes of black tea, spice box, and beautiful cool-climate Pinot acidity, this wine offers a healthy dose of immediate gratification, but should also cellar for 12-15 years or more.

Founded in 2001 by David Cobb and his son Ross, Cobb Wines has been a pioneer of far West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir since its inception. Focusing exclusively on single-vineyard Pinot Noir from within minutes of the Pacific Ocean, Ross crafts among the most pure expressions of cool climate California Pinot Noir I’ve ever tasted. Skillfully employing partial whole-cluster fermentations and carefully selected French oak Burgundy barrels, he coaxes out a combination of expressive fruit and aromatic complexity rarely found in domestic Pinot Noir.

Beginning in 1989 with the planting of his Coastlands Vineyard, David has been honing his talents as a premier grower of Pinot Noir fruit in the region. Over the ensuing decade of sustainable farming, he grew to understand the wind-swept ridges of the far Sonoma Coast and their potential for producing wines of exceptional elegance and grace. Originally planning simply to sell his fruit, it was not until his son Ross returned home to the family business that the decision was made to bottle their own wines under the Cobb name. Now an accomplished winemaker specializing in Pinot Noir, Ross was able to immediately realize the potential of Coastlands Vineyard fruit, and now makes numerous small-production, single vineyard Pinots under the Cobb label. Sourcing from friends and neighbors around the West Sonoma Coast, Cobb has developed an impressive roster of bottlings, each expressing their site and climate beautifully.

There simply is not a producer in California today making more ethereal, aromatically intoxicating, or cellar-worthy Pinot Noir. Whether a lover of California Pinot, or a collector of rare Burgundy, you owe it to yourself to bring some Cobb Wines into your home!
